Tough Enough To Wear Pink

red line under page heading

Call it a pink craze or whatever you like, but at rodeos the past couple of years you may have seen pink barrels, pink cowboy hats, pink chaps, pink shirts, pink balloons and pink beads. The Ellensburg rodeo is no different.

This year, The Ellensburg Rodeo will be sponsoring the 3rd annual Tough Enough To Wear Pink day, Sunday August 31, 2008. The Tough Enough To Wear Pink campaign that supports awareness of breast cancer, early detection and funding for research has taken hold! There are many activities at this year’s rodeo in keeping the arena pink. As an added incentive for contestants on Sunday, the rodeo committee is offering $100.00 to the contestant with the lowest time, or highest score in each event during the performance, provided the contestant is wearing pink. An additional $100.00 will also be donated to the American Cancer Society in the contestant’s name.

All rodeo fans are encouraged to wear pink on Sunday. Pink bandanas and beads are available now at the Ellensburg Rodeo ticket office for a $2 donation for a western bandana or $1 for a set of beads. All pink merchandise will be available at the rodeo on Sunday. In addition to pink apparel, beads and bandanas, 500 pink balloons will be released during the rodeo. For a $1 donation, you may have a balloon released in honor of your loved one fighting cancer. Balloon tables will be set up throughout the grounds on Sunday for your convenience. In addition, raffle tickets for a mini Indy Nascar are currently available at various locations around town, & the rodeo office.

New to the campaign this year is the opportunity to be a corporate sponsor. The 3 levels of sponsorship, Gold, Silver and Bronze, can be found here. If you are interested in supporting the breast cancer cause in this way, please contact Laurie Erickson at 509 856-4020 or Sonja Mitchell at 509 856-4020 Or 509 899-1586, respectively.

Be sure to stick around after Sunday’s performance for a Tough Enough To Wear Pink auction that will take place in the arena. You will be able to find several great items, including a pair of shortened pink chaps made by a local leather craftsman.

All proceeds raised will benefit both the women of Ellensburg, currently fighting breast cancer, and the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
